It's midsummer, and the Rathausplatz Film Festival is in full swing! Since June 29th, Charlie P’s Irish Kitchen has been delighting festival goers with great food, drinks, and summer vibes.
Our stand is buzzing nicely, bringing you some culinary delights including our smash burger. We were thrilled this year to introduce the Blaa Blaa Double Smash Burger which has turned out to be the food highlight of the summer.

Charlie P's Irish Kitchen on Rathausplatz
This is Charlie P's Irish Kitchen second year at the Rathausplatz Film Festival, and we wanted to introduce something extra special.
We ran into some issues along the way regarding burger naming rights and had to come up with alternative solutions.
Additionally, we weren't allowed to use our famous handmade brioche buns from our Charlie Ps Irish pub burger menu, which led us to innovate, and we ended up creating our own version of the famous Irish Blaa bread.
This twist has added a unique touch, making our smash burgers even more special.
The idea of introducing a smash burger at Charlie P’s Irish Kitchen has been on our radar for a while. After numerous tests, we organized a city road trip, visiting top smash burger joints in Vienna for inspiration and, of course, to enjoy some burgers!
Our head chef, Ali, known for crafting the best burgers at Charlie P’s, was eager to put his unique twist on this trend.
We explored places like XO Grill and Smashbox to get the low down on Vienna’s smash burger culture.
It was clear – smash burgers were on the rise, and we had to bring our unique version to the table.
Ali went to work, crafting his perfect combination: homemade ketchup, sweet and sour mayo, mustard seed caviar, and shredded iceberg lettuce for freshness.
The result? An instant hit!
Blaa bread, or Waterford Blaa, is a specialty from Waterford, Ireland. It comes in two varieties – soft and crusty.
We fully respect the tradition of Blaa bread and what we create is our own style of the famous Blaa bread, perfect for our smash burgers. It’s light and melts in your mouth – an excellent companion to our juicy burgers.
A smash burger is all about technique. By pressing the beef patty onto a hot griddle, we create a thin, wide patty that cooks quickly, enhancing the meat sear for a rich flavour and crispy exterior.
This method, popularized by chains like Smashburger, ensures a deliciously crunchy and juicy burger.
The heart of our burger is the meat. We source the finest Irish beef from FX Buckley's, blending Hereford and Angus, grass-fed and dry-aged for 28 days.
Every morning, we grind the beef, ensuring each patty has the perfect fat content for maximum juiciness.
For our Blaa Blaa Double Smash Burger, we use two smash patties with melted Irish cheddar in between.
To perfect our smash burgers and give us extra grilling real estate, we got ourselves a brand-new grill and some burger smashing utensils.
This setup allows Ali and his team to achieve the ideal crispy crust on each burger, enhancing the caramelization for an unbeatable flavor.
Our process ensures the burgers are cooked quickly and served in minutes, perfect for the bustling festival environment.
